eiffelparisAn annual survey by the American research group Mercer HRC compared 144 cities, using 200 criteria to measure expenses ranging from the cost of CDs to dishwashers to apartments.

New York, the 12th most expensive city was selected as the median and given an index of 100. Tokyo topped the league at 130.7, followed by London at 119.

Happily, Paris came in at the 17th place with an index of 94.8. That is the good news.

The bad news is that in 2003, Paris was number 23. The Mercer report points to the rising cost of luxury apartments in Paris, mainly by foreigners, as fuelling the inflation bubble. While overall living in Paris looks more affordable than London, we advise you to buy your CDs somewhere else: At an average of €19.29, Parisian CDs are the most expensive in the world!
