In order to better cover its region and to stimulate competition in telecommunications, the Dordogne has started to build an optical fiber network since 2005 in association with “LDCollectivités”, a French operator. The idea is to offer companies, individuals and institutions an access to very high bandwidth connectivity under commercial conditions equivalent to those proposed in the most urbanized territories. The metropolitan area network is composed of 30 miles of fiber and the equipment of 13 areas with ADSL2+.

The individual can benefit from triple play services (TV, phone and web) with a flow of approximately 20mbits. Companies can have fiber access (100mbits, 1 gbits etc.) in all of the economic areas of the region and can benefit from web hosting services. All the services are very competitive thanks to the competition between the operators (Neuf Télécom, Cegetel, Completel, Colt, Telecom Italia etc.)
