Paris and its suburbs rank a dominant first position in French biotech. Paris boasts 43% of Ile-de-France’s biotech firms and 62% of the region’s academic research. In addition, over 45% of total governmental and private research is conducted in Paris.
Advanced training institutions, a concentration of teaching hospitals, research facilities and large number of biotech firms supply the ingredients to position Paris as a major healthcare center of expertise.
Fundamental research in the French capital is mostly conducted in organisations such as the Curie Institute, the Pasteur Institute, INSERM, CNRS, local universities and graduate schools as well as AP-HP hospitals. Specialised labs within these institutions focus on research applications to bolster the industry’s strength In addition, several incubators and biotech clusters––such as Paris Biotech or Pasteur Bio Top––have been set up in Paris and serve to foster new biotech business creation. In parallel, several real estate projects entirely devoted to biotechnology are currently under development to boost Paris’ biotech expertise.
