Five Fat Years for Managers

What about Europe ? Aging population, low growth rates… yes, we know. But the future is not as dim as that, at least for managers. KornFerry International, one of the leading headhunting firms in the world, has plans to vigourously expand in Europe, pushing its revenues from the old continent to « at least » 40 per cent, up 10 points or more (from 30 per cent in 2009).

CEO Gary Burnison is currently spending three months on this side of the Atlantic, convinced that « if we want to grow, it is going to be in Europe ». For a start, he surprises analysts with KornFerry’s return to profitability in 2009, a success that adds credibility to his analysis.

In Burnison’s opinion, Europe will remain more important than Asia (where KornFerry has 14 offices) for the five years to come. It will take some time before private consumption goes up in Asia and before local managers attain the quality of their counterparts from Europe, says Burnison. The United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy remain KornFerry’s most important markets in Europe. Burnison sees considerable growth potential further East : in Poland, Hungary and Turkey.
