The Dordogne region

In the last few years, the Dordogne has been promoting bio-industries throughout its region. Different sectors are concerned, included bio-tourism and of course bio-food. Make sure you are part of this growing sector, fully supported by the region and the development agency.

Soya production in the Dordogne

Soya production in the Dordogne dates back to 1993. Encouraged by the “Protein Plan” of the national government in 2000-01, to support French production of alternative sources of protein, the Dordogne is now one of the largest soya producers in France. Public subsidies and incentives are available to further support producers in the Dordogne region, furthering the development of the bio-food industry.

Bio-food industry in the Dordogne

Providing quality bio-food is one of the main objectives of the Dordogne. Numerous Food Standards have been implemented to ensure consumers of the excellent quality of regional products. Local producers are proud of the quality of their produce and have joined together to ensure quality consistency through common production processes. To encourage entrepreneurship, procedures have been simplified and the regional development agency is actively involved in assisting innovative projects.

AgroBio Périgord

AgroBio Périgord is the association that groups all bio-food producers in the Dordogne region: they ensure quality and the respect of the bio-food label. This includes forbidding the use of genetically-modified (GM) food or substances, thereby reinforcing the natural product. Governmental organisations and the private sector have signed agreement on GM use in the Dordogne. A defining criteria of bio-foods is the non-use of GM. Administrative and on-site verifications and testing guarantee consumer/product transparency.

International food groups looking to develop bio-food production have been attracted to the Dordogne by its strict and controlled adherence to non-GM bio-food production.
