Businesses dealing in logistics cannot ignore France and its pole position within the Europe-wide logistics industry. The European logistics industry, valued at about €710Bn (representing 8% of EU GDP) has seen strong and steady growth over the last decade.
With a 17% market share and employing over 55,000 trained technicians and managers, the French logistics industry is valued at €120Bn. France is one of the most developed market in Europe for logistics outsourcing with about 30% of companies in France outsourcing their logistics activities.
Many aspects of the logistics industry are dominated by large international groups and some 20-odd companies dominate the European scene. In France, foreign companies control about 33% of the market, all of which are large multinationals, such as Geodis and Premium Logistics (2M m² and 1M m² of warehouse space respectively).
Nevertheless, there is a wealth of smaller specialised companies and sub-contractors. These are most notable in activities such as materials handling, packing, stock management, order preparation return logistics and SCM. France is also a world leader in logistics equipment industry, counting over 300 separate companies, the largest of which are: Savoye, FL et Co., Caddie and Pinguely Haulotte.
